About Nations Roleplay:
Normally don’t write reviews, but this game has satisfied much of my RTS binge. I’m not all the way through the campaign, but I feel confident in this review. There are three main points, Mechanics, Story, and how Polish (not the country) could make both the former.Mechanically, this game plays very similar to an even more asymetrical Starcraft: BW. With very dumb units (painful to some, charm to myself), it requires skilled micro in order to get the most out of your dudes. Furthermore, the tiered resource collection system (Command—>Worker–>Resource node–>Collect) adds an interesting layer to the macro aspect of gameplay. Really, despite some micro tricks, if you love to macro in an RTS this is your game! As this game is made by only two developers, I will soften what could be some harsh critique (dear god, the human voice acting). However, as you play the… other races in the game, I can guarantee you will go from skipping every cutscene to at least wanting to follow along for the next map. With a fairly consistent flow and gentle unit introductions, it has an excellent pace on Hard.Mechanically, the game is at its strongest point when you are macroing your econ/buildings and microing your army. After that, it can become confusing as to certain hidden mechanics. The How to play is nice, but I had to discover for myself that Alt shows health bars, projectiles can be blocked from hitting their intended target, and I am sure I am missing more hidden complexity (I would pay for a multiplayer expansion.
