About Work At A Pizza Place:
Full disclosure, I am a friend of the developer and helped her with some of the bug hunting and early testing of the game. I received a free copy to review here! (I was given the copy of the game outside of steam, so ignore my playtime!) Pizza game is a meta visual novel with vague dating sim elements. All of the characters in the game resemble cheap knock off versions of the developer pLasterbrain’s real friends (for example, the character Sensei is supposed to be YouTuber Jelloapocalypse’s very loose pizza game interpretation of him!). This is why a lot of the names may seem strange, because they are based on the actual online handles their real counterparts use. Most of these friends are public or semi public figures mostly based around the tabletop game based Twitch channel Surprise Round. Thus, it is rife with a lot of jokes and nods to inside jokes of the friend group. Despite this, the game hold up on its own with no required background knowledge. The game is a tongue in cheek mockery of traditional dating sims. Written in the same vein and spirit as a poorly written fanfiction (if you have seen Welcome To Fanfiction by Jelloapocalypse, it was written by the same person, and features a very similar style of writing and humor), Pizza Game tells the tale of Kiane, a young lady from the city of Flordaddle who is in love with the president of Microsofit and avid lover of pizza Mr. Arimnaes. However, one day, someone in Flordaddle is mysteriously murdered, and the player must uncover the mystery of the murder, and maybe date some cute boys along the way. From that premise the player can choose to attempt to woo Mr. Arimnaes or date some of the other similarly quirky residents of Flordaddle and peruse through over 190,000 words filled with typos and wacky surreal situations.
